Rivian vehicles now offer more entertainment options with the adoption of Google Cast in the company’s cars. When the cars are parked, passengers can use Google Cast to stream content from thousands of apps to the dashboard screen.
The cars are also getting native apps for YouTube and SiriusXM to play media directly from the vehicle’s big screen. Rivian is offering all of its customers a temporary free trial of SiriusXM; after the trial ends, users will have to subscribe to continue using satellite radio.
Google announced in the spring that it would update Android for cars with a casting feature. Rivian appears to be the first manufacturer to take advantage of this technology. The Google update is just the latest collaboration for the company. Earlier this month, Rivian also opened up its charging stations for use by other brands of electric vehicles.
Squid Game has set a new high for Netflix’s television programming. Variety reported that the Korean show’s second season garnered 68 million views in its first four days. That’s the biggest debut for a TV show on the streaming platform, beating the 50.1 million set in 2022 through Wednesday.
Squid Game’s first season also held the crown as the most-watched Netflix series for a while; 142 million households had watched it as of October 2021. The third and final season could set up a hat-trick of record results for the company when it airs next year.
While the show offers a scathing critique of capitalism, Netflix is turning Squid Game into quite the cash cow. The streamer launched a less lethal reality show spinoff, an in-person pop-up experience, and a multiplayer mobile game based on the TV series.
