Teamsters unions at five additional Amazon facilities have voted to go on strike, following similar actions in New York City and Illinois.
The International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT) announced in a statement that union members “unanimously” approved measures to authorize strikes at four Southern California facilities and a fifth facility in Atlanta. According to SiliconValley.com, the four Southern California facilities are located in the City of Industry, Palmdale, Victorville, and San Bernardino.
This brings the total number of Amazon facilities that have authorized employee strikes to eight. The total includes a facility in Skokie, Illinois, and two New York City warehouses in Staten Island and Queens.
The IBT represents about 10,000 employees at 10 Amazon facilities across the country. These facilities approved the strike in the middle of the holiday shopping season, which is the busiest and most lucrative time of year for the online retail giant. According to statements from the IBT, Amazon workers went on strike to protest low wages, dangerous working conditions and “Amazon’s illegal refusal to recognize their union.”
Teamsters General President Sean N. O’Brien said in the statement that Amazon has failed to provide adequate compensation and protection to its workers. If their demands are ignored, O’Brien said they will begin a strike.
“Amazon workers want to earn a decent living, have good healthcare and be safe on the job,” O’Brien said. “They are fed up with disrespect and if Amazon continues to pressure them, it will force them to strike.”
Laptops are evolving rapidly, with some new models using AI-powered features that adapt to your usage and improve performance in real time. These AI PCs can optimize battery life, manage power across tasks and even enhance webcam quality during video calls.
Although AI integration in laptops is still relatively new, it’s a feature you should look into if you’re considering future-proofing your setup. Plus, it’s exciting to see how these AI-powered PCs can handle everything from productivity to entertainment, offering smart adjustments and enhancements that can make our digital lives a little easier.
Of all the notebooks we’ve tested and reviewed recently, we consider Apple’s 13-inch MacBook Air M3 to be the best laptop for most people, and that’s the case for our top picks to start the new year as well. It’s powerful enough to handle most tasks (even light video editing); it has a great screen and built-in speakers; and its battery can last for around 20 hours (depending on what you’re doing, of course).
The MacBook Air M3 is also one of the lightest and thinnest systems we’ve reviewed, and it’s downright quiet thanks to its fanless design. Although Apple recently introduced its new M4 chip in the iPad Pro, we won’t see it in the MacBook Air until next year. For now, the MacBook Air M3 is still a great laptop to buy, especially if you want a machine with good battery life.
Of course, not everyone wants a MacBook, and there are also great Windows laptops and Chromebooks out there. Windows systems offer a variety of configurations, from budget to high-end UHD screens with gorgeous IPS panels that boast high nits for brightness.
Chromebooks, on the other hand, are more affordable and are great for users who work mostly online. Whether you need a powerhouse for creative work, a compact system for note taking, or a laptop that can handle movie night with the family, today’s laptop market has something for everyone.
